The commercial property in St Helens required maintenance and refurbishment, and as part of this work, the asbestos roofing needed to be safely removed. While the sheets were intact, leaving asbestos in place can still be hazardous, especially during construction or maintenance activity, as even minor disturbance can release dangerous fibres into the air.
With employees and visitors regularly on-site, the client sought a licensed and professional team to manage the removal and disposal of the asbestos safely.
Following a site visit and risk assessment, our team developed a detailed plan for the safe removal of the roofing sheets. Access was achieved using Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), allowing our team to reach the high sections of the roof safely.
The asbestos roofing was dismantled in full panels wherever possible to minimise the risk of fibre release. Each panel was carefully handled and placed directly into sealed, labelled asbestos skips, which had been delivered to the site in advance.
To ensure safety throughout the process, the work area was fully cordoned off to prevent unauthorised access, and all operatives wore full PPE, including respiratory protective equipment.
Once all panels had been removed, the asbestos skips were collected by a licensed waste contractor and transported to an approved hazardous waste facility for safe disposal. The site was then thoroughly decontaminated, with all debris cleared, leaving the property safe for future use.

Health and safety were paramount at every stage of the project. Our operatives followed a strict method statement and risk assessment, specifically designed for working at height and handling asbestos-containing materials.
Using MEWPs allowed for safe access to elevated areas, and all materials were handled in accordance with HSE guidelines. The cordoned-off area, combined with controlled handling and secure containment in asbestos skips, ensured the surrounding environment remained safe throughout the work.
The asbestos roof sheet removal at St Helens was completed efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to the client’s operations. By dismantling the sheets carefully and using secure containment methods, DACT ensured that the site was left hazard-free and ready for the next stage of refurbishment.
Our client was satisfied with the result, appreciating both the professional approach and the thorough attention to safety. This project demonstrates how licensed asbestos removal contractors can manage potentially dangerous materials safely while maintaining compliance with all legal requirements.
