Why was asbestos removal required?
The commercial property in St Helens required maintenance and refurbishment, and as part of this work, the asbestos roofing needed to be safely removed. Following a site visit and risk assessment, our team developed a detailed plan for the safe removal of the roofing sheets. Access was achieved using Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), allowing our team to reach the high sections of the roof safely.
The asbestos roofing was dismantled in full panels wherever possible to minimise the risk of fibre release. Each panel was carefully handled and placed directly into sealed, labelled asbestos skips, which had been delivered to the site in advance.
To ensure safety throughout the process, the work area was fully cordoned off to prevent unauthorised access, and all operatives wore full PPE, including respiratory protective equipment.
Once all panels had been removed, the asbestos skips were collected by a licensed waste contractor and transported to an approved hazardous waste facility for safe disposal. The site was then thoroughly decontaminated, with all debris cleared, leaving the property safe for future use.
